Chef Matt Zafrir

Owings Mills native, Matthew Zafrir, has worked at several highly acclaimed restaurants in Washington, DC, including Michelin-starred minibar by José Andrés and Cranes Spanish Kaiseki. Most recently, Matthew was at the helm of the historic Tabard Inn where he focused on highlighting the Mid-Atlantic’s farmers and purveyors. While there, he was named Washington City Paper’s Best Chef of 2024, and the Tabard received an award from 4P Foods for their support of local farms. You may have also seen him on Food Network’s Beat Bobby Flay last year.

Now Matthew has returned to his hometown, ready to make a home at The Tillery. He’s excited to put his own flair on the iconic dishes and products of Baltimore that he knows and loves. He’ll take inspiration from his favorite Jewish delis and Southern comfort food while displaying the bounty of the Chesapeake Bay watershed.
